Inside Lumos: The Dying Light - Night Farer

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the first article of Inside Lumos: The Dying Light! In this article, I will be talking about one of the Lumos' game modes: The Night Farer mode.

The Night Farer mode button on the Main Menu

What's different in the Night Farer mode? Let me count the ways...

  1. Instead of being a stationary light, you are mobile. Yes. That means you can control your motion by tilting your device!
  2. Darkmites (the tap enemies) are the only enemies that will spawn. (no flicks and swipes!)
  3. New sets of powerups called Totems!

Night Farer mode with Darkmites and a Totem

So what are Totems? Totems are special powerups unique in this game mode. They can be activated by either (1) tapping them or by (2) absorbing them. Tapping them has a different effect compared to absorbing them, so you have to think quick which effect you would want from the Totem!

Here are the different Totems available:

Name: Electric Field
Tap Effect: There will be a small electric explosion from the totem area. All affected enemies will then die, and will create a smaller electric explosion. This has a recursive effect as long as there are enemies affected (so the smaller explosions will trigger explosions on the affected enemies, etc.)
Absorb Effect: You will become invulnerable for the duration of this effect. An aura will surround you during this period. All enemies that will come into contact to your aura will die. Darkmites will also move away from you while having this aura.

Name: Circle of Protection
Tap Effect: For the duration of this effect, an enclosed area around the circle of protection will not be accessible to tap enemies. (Safe Zone) While you are in this Safe Zone, photons will slowly move towards you.
Absorb Effect: A barrier-like aura will generate around you for the duration of this effect. No enemies will be able to pass through the aura, and you can push enemies aside using the aura.

Name: Ember Soul
Tap Effect: There will be a fiery explosion from the totem, leaving flames around it (with a certain radius) and the flames will remain for a long period of time. All enemies that will come into contact with the flames will die.
Absorb Effect: You will shoot fireballs in the direction you are facing for the duration of this effect.

Name: Vortex
Tap Effect: A black hole-like object will spawn at the position of the totem. All enemies will be drawn to that black hole. (They will not die, but they will clump together making them easier to kill with tap).
Absorb Effect: A barrier-like aura will generate around you for the duration of this effect. All dark creatures/objects that will come into contact with this aura will stick to it and will be slowed down 5x. These enemies will not split when tapped.

In general, absorbing Totems will have an effect on your light, while tapping Totems will have an effect on the environment.

I believe it's much better seeing these Totems in action than reading about it, so I will be posting videos later this week, so watch out for them. :D

Lastly, these are not the only Totems that will be in the game. Many more are currently being planned and tested to be released on the next version, so watch out for it too! (I will also be posting the new totems when they are ready).

April Fools!

No seriously, I'm not joking around.

As of the moment, we have finished the development for version 1 of our new game, and we are now entering the rigorous testing phase where we iron out small bugs (and squash major bugs, if any). And since I'm so excited to launch our new game, I'm giving you a sneak peek of what the splash screen looks like!

So there you have it, the title of our new game will be "Lumos: The Dying Light"

Hello!

It's been so long since my last post.. Mainly because I am currently working on a new game which will be released very soon! I am very excited about the game, and hopefully, a lot of people will enjoy it as much as we (me and Marie, our artist) enjoyed developing the game!

I will be regularly updating this blog again with updates on the new game. Until then, don't forget to remember!

He stood on the sidewalk, leaning on the metal railings used to block off people during concerts. He watched people walking by, glancing at him for a moment, then turning their face away, as if hiding a snicker.

"Ah, bahala sila sa buhay nila." he thought. It was unavoidable. People were already accustomed to ridiculing his getup.

His brightly colored cap, which was unusually tall, stood out from the hustle and bustle of the morning crowd. It's as if it was his way of telling his friends where he was located.

He then took out his cellphone and texted a friend of his. "d2 n aQ. wEr kAu???"

Today, like yesterday and the day before that, a concert will be held on the place where he is currently standing. And today, like the previous days, he will attend the concert as well. He was proud of his perfect attendance, which stretched back as far as a few years ago, and he was not about to miss one just because his friend was running late.

"Ang tagal naman nila! 6pm ang usapan namin ah. Hindi na nga ako nagmerienda para lang hindi ako ma-late!" he thought.

It was true. He skipped on his afternoon snack just to be on time, and for that, he was feeling hunger pangs.

He then glanced sideways and noticed a small cart selling streetfood. The smoke coming from the cart carried a familiar scent, prompting him to pocket his cellphone and walk towards the enticing aroma.

"Maka-isaw nga muna."
