One week ago, we all had our share
of laughs, excites, panics, and scares.
For in Cebu, we all did compete
to be the best programming athlete.
We hailed from the place called UP Diliman
(bordered by the Commonwealth and Katipunan).
We were twenty people as a whole;
six teams, two coaches, and a lot of soul
whose goal was to fight and to be the best
in the ACM ICPC Philippines contest.
We had our grueling practice session
right before they served our luncheon.
The only thing I can say about the practice
is that the judge seemed full of mysteries.
We asked about the issues we found
but got answers as clear as muddy ground.
After the lunch (which was great, by the way),
we waited for a long time in the hallway
before they told us to go to the rooms
because the contest is starting soon.
For the longest time, we had to endure
an endless log-in-log-out overture.
Seems like some teams were not followers
of the directions from the organizers.
Anyway, after 30 minutes or so,
I felt my bladder was gonna explode.
So I went to the urinals, released my pee,
returned to the room hurriedly
because, to my surprise, the contest began
while I was outside (oh man, oh man).
As I got to my seat, I picked up the paper,
looked for the easy ones (hard ones for later)
Marte was already coding, I think problem B
while Kevinsky was saying C is also easy.
I read problem D (shucks, full of text)
so I immediately shifted to E (the next)
which was a math problem, thank goodness.
I found the formula, then proceeded to the rest.
Meanwhile Marte has submitted B, and was waiting
only to receive an RE (What the hell's happening??)
'Imposibleng runtime error!', Marte exclaimed
while showing us the code, he explained.
Anyway, we continued on and coded
eventually the problem B was accepted
and so did C and also problem E
so we decided to look at the final three.
Marte coded F, I reread problem D.
I and Sky realized D was also very easy
so after Marte coded F, and proceeded to A
I coded D, with Sky helping along the way.
Eventually, all our solutions were accepted
and with a final "Yes!", we finally rested.
We three went outside and drank a cup of coffee
(or in my case, a single bottle of iced tea).
We were the first team to finish this battle of wits.
Our second team followed after a few minutes.

what is a smile?
A smile is a field of sunflowers
dancing beneath the morning skies.
A smile is a tainted wall of sin
that borders truths from spiteful lies.
A smile is a warm, thoughtful embrace
when the world's frozen all over
A smile is a traitor's bladed knife
that stabs you while under cover.

melancholic rainy days
The heavens sob as I
peer outside from my window.
The sound of teardrops falling
sounds like a beat from a beaten up drum.
For whom does the heavens cry? I wonder,
as I gaze upon the rivers
of our neighbors' rooftop.
I wish I could be there
to comfort the sky, and bring back
the smiling morning star.

Of Deception
As the moon's reflection shines upon
the sleeping lake, I remember; once
I believed the moon lived beneath this
body of water. The trees have been
swaying along the stormy breeze.

Of Death
As I gaze upon the setting sun
and burning sky, the darkness begun
to swallow what's left of the morning
and leave the heavens with watching souls
that twinkle brightly, guiding our way.

Of Destiny
As I watch the clouds flowing along
the stream of azure, I feel a throng
of a thousand raging ocean breeze
forcing me to stand up and follow.
The remains of the ocean wall stands strong.

Of Pain
I stared at the horizon and saw
a mountain being slowly shaved off
its hair. I can hear its tormenting
screams; they pierce through this body of mine
like a javelin impaling my torso.

Of Beginnings
I hear the dropping of the first dew
The scent of wet grass making the view
a panoramic backdrop. My soul
feels like a freshly polished gemstone.
The clouds are busy sleeping today.

Of Attraction
As I watch the trees swaying along
the breath of the earth, the nature's song
fills the air; a beautiful, mellow
melody, lifting your senses up
to a place where the heavens smile.

Of Life
I hike downstream beside the river
Its sudden falls and sudden turns bear
hindering rocks and vast crevasses
At the end, every river droplet
is embraced by the mother ocean.

hindering rocks and vast crevasses
At the end, every river droplet
is embraced by the mother ocean.
Of Support
As I walk along this cold pavement,
the stars begin to cry; amazement
begins to swallow my emotions
as I understand the clouds' notion
of covering up the teary stars' faces.

Diyos nawa
Diyos nawa
(Taken from: God knows by Aya Hirano)
I
Ako'y tumatakbo
nauuhaw ang aking puso
Paumanhin,
wala akong magawa
II
Hindi mo man lang
Ako pinapayagan na
Makihati
sa iyong mga pighati
Refrain I
Ang mabuhay
ng walang bahid ng lumbay
Kaharap ko ang iyong likod
Ako ay paalis
Sa malungkot na riles
Chorus I
Diyos nawa
III
Ang pag-ibig
na sakin ay iyong hinatid
ay nagbago
sa aking paniniwala
IV
Di ko kailangan ng
Rason para ika'y makita
Pagsuyo ko lang na
Umaapaw para sa iyo
Refrain II
tayo'y gumuhit
ng isang magandang panaginip
at maghabulan pa
para sa iyong puso na malumbay
Chorus II
Tumigil ka sa iyong mga
pagsisinungaling at
pagusapan natin ang ating kinabukasan
Ako ay handa kahit na
ang bukas nati'y mabalakid
kaya natin na labanan ang ating tadhana
pag ako ay lumakas
para matupad ang ating hiling,
ang lahat ay
Diyos nawa
Bridge
Ikaw ay nandito
Ako ay nandito
at ang paligid ay walang katao-tao
At habang atin na
pinipinta ang marikit na panaginip
Guhit din ang mga pantal
Chorus III
Dahil doon
Ako ay susunod sa iyo at
Kahit na gaano
kahirap ang mundong ito alam ko
ikaw ay kikislap kahit sa madilim na sulok

Uh
What does a person type
in 2 in the morning?
Surely, it isn't hype
Surely, it ain't nothing
But I'm sure it made sense
to the one who's writing
So in people's defense
I'm gonna be doing
something I don't know yet.
Damn.

a poem
I thought of a poem
along the way home
but i didn't have anything
to write the words on.
So when I jumped off the jeep,
I ran along the streets
hurriedly towards home sweet home
When I got home, finally
I zoomed to my room quickly
Looking for a pen and paper
while I still remember
these words that I have strewn.
The moment I found the scribes
I started losing my vibes
One by one, each word fell
into the deep obscurity's well.
And so let this confession
be a well remembered lesson
saying you must always prepare,
always bring a pen and paper.

1:11 AM
As I peer outside my bedroom window,
I feel the evening's breath embracing my face.
The absence of crickets fills the breeze with
whispers; knells of the unheard cries of the land.
As I take a sip inside my coffee cup,
I feel the caffeine's breath embracing my face.
The absence of sugar fills my blood with
needles; knells of the unheard cries of my body.
I feel the evening's breath embracing my face.
The absence of crickets fills the breeze with
whispers; knells of the unheard cries of the land.
As I take a sip inside my coffee cup,
I feel the caffeine's breath embracing my face.

For Irene
I can clearly see the evening heavens,
the countless stars that twinkle,
swimming in a stream of velvet,
and the bejeweled pendant of light
hanging proudly in the center.
One day I would gather them all for you,
so that when my hands will again touch yours,
we will be embraced by the warmest of lights.
the countless stars that twinkle,
swimming in a stream of velvet,
and the bejeweled pendant of light
hanging proudly in the center.
One day I would gather them all for you,
so that when my hands will again touch yours,
we will be embraced by the warmest of lights.

sunday afternoon
my electric fan is an orchestra
and my room is an opera house
the midday sun is the lighting
and the warm breeze sets the mood
their performance leaves me unable
to speak in a lively tone
for i am amazed at the perfect blend
of sounds, lights, and touch
that can lull even the most caffeinated man
without ever doing so much

Hikab
I stare into a glass of water
and watch the ripples begin to fade.
It made me think of something better.
But I think I forgot, I'm afraid.
Because these thoughts dissolve into
an endless pit of whimsical goo,
I craft a wall of text which a few
of the ideas inside I threw.

It made me think of something better.

an endless pit of whimsical goo,
I craft a wall of text which a few
